THE BASICS
What is the Super Visa?
The Super Visa is a multiple-entry visa for the parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. It can be valid for up to ten years, and each visit can last up to five years.
- Valid for
- Up to 10 years, multiple entries
- Each visit
- Up to 5 years
- Income
- Host must meet a minimum for their family size
- Insurance
- Canadian medical insurance, one year of coverage
What you will need
- 1
An invitation letter from the host
Signed by the child or grandchild in Canada, with a promise of financial support.
- 2
Proof of income
The host must meet a minimum income that depends on the size of their family.
- 3
Insurance and a medical exam
Private Canadian insurance with a minimum coverage, and an immigration medical exam.
Income just under the minimum?
We look at what counts, whether co-signers can help, and whether another route makes more sense.
Refused a visitor visa before?
The Super Visa is a separate application, but earlier refusals matter. We look at your history first.
Want your parents to stay permanently?
The Super Visa is temporary. If permanent residence is the goal, sponsorship is another option.
