THE BASICS
What is a visitor visa?
A visitor visa, officially a Temporary Resident Visa, lets you enter Canada for a short stay, usually up to six months. Many travellers need one. Citizens of some countries need only an eTA if they fly in.
- Usual stay
- Up to 6 months
- Officers look for
- A clear purpose and strong ties to home
- You need
- Passport, funds, itinerary, biometrics
- Can be valid for
- Multiple entries, up to 10 years
How the process works
- 1
Check what you need
A visa, an eTA, or neither, depending on your passport and how you travel.
- 2
Build your case
Funds, employment, family and a clear plan for your visit.
- 3
Apply and give biometrics
We file, book your biometrics appointment and follow your application.
Previously refused a visitor visa?
Reapplying without changes rarely works. We review the refusal and fix what the officer questioned first.
Inviting someone to Canada?
An invitation letter helps but is not a guarantee. We help you write one that actually adds value.
Staying with family for longer?
For parents and grandparents there may be a better option than a visitor visa.
